It is an often overlooked fact that your appraisal is YOUR appraisal, not your manager's! It is a time to focus on YOU and should be led by you. However, many employees fail to adequately plan for their review meeting, with the result that that they are unable to lead - and sometimes participate fully in - the discussion. Appraisal reviews can often be daunting - even with a nice manager! Even if everything seems fine, it is sometimes difficult to know what to say, and if there are problems, it is sometimes even trickier to know exactly how to raise these for fear of upsetting the 'apple cart'. However, one of the most important things that you can do to ensure that your appraisal meeting is not just something you get through, but is a positive experience that helps you to focus your energies on your future success and personal and professional development, is to actively prepare for it. This workshop therefore examines what an appraisal is all about, how it reflects the organisation's own purpose and business strategy and how best to prepare for it. It also covers practical skills such as active listening, questioning and giving constructive feedback skills so that you are in a better position to discuss your role, objectives and any concerns you have in a purposeful and constructive manner.
